In order to acknowledge the appropriateness of a foreign document, which has not yet been declared equivalent to an Italian academic II level degree, foreign candidates will have to - to the sole purpose of admission to the doctorate they are applying for - specifically file a request of equivalence along with the application, by using the sample form B attached to the announcement, which forms integral part of the application, and supply all the documents mentioned in the sample that could be useful to allow the judging Commission in the acknowledgement of appropriateness of the qualification presented. Attached documents must be translated into Italian and authenticated by competent diplomatic representatives.

Italian citizens owning foreign academic qualifications, which have not yet been declared equivalent to an Italian academic II level degree will have to follow the same dispositions as in the previous paragraph.

Anyone interested must fill in the equivalence request as indicated in the sample form attached to the announcement, inclusive of all elements requested thereto.

Any exclusion from admission examination caused by deficiency of requisites will be set out by means of a motivating Rectoral Decree.

After starting on the Ph.D. program in Engineering and Applied Sciences, each student has to:

  • choose the curriculum and tutor who will supervise the research activities
  • in agreement with the tutor, define the research subject
  • in agreement with the tutor, define the plan of activities for the first year, in agreement with the educational regulations approved by the Ph.D. faculty
  • fill in the appropriate form with the research subject, name of tutor and the educational program, which has to be approved by the faculty, and send it to the Ph.D. coordinator.

The tutor must be chosen within the Ph.D. faculty. Normally, the student will carry on his/her research in the tutor's laboratory. The tutor will suggest and supervise the educational and research activity of the student and he/she has to manage the funds that are at each student's disposal. The tutor's approval is necessary for whatever request the student submits to the faculty or to the coordinator. The tutor can be changed upon authorization by the faculty.

The educational program can be changed during the year. This adjustment can be made by compiling a new form that has to be submitted to the coordinator for approval. Credits may not be gained nor funds for attending courses or schools used without prior approval.

At the end of the first and second year of their Ph.D., students are required to undergo an evaluation process for admission to the next course year. They have to:

  • provide the coordinator with a short written report about what has been done during the previous year
  • present and discuss their research activity before the Ph.D. faculty.

A few days after their admission to the next course year, students must present a new one-year plan of activities and they must fill in the usual form showing the number of credits they have already acquired.
