Call for applications for admission to PhD courses – XXXVII Cycle

Applications for admission to the selections must be submitted by the peremptory deadline of 15th June 2021 (11.59 a.m. Italian time). The registration for the competition will be made exclusively online following the instructions indicated in the document attached to the call published on the University website on this same page. 

It is the responsibility of the applicant to verify the proper completion of the procedure, with the successful printing of the receipt. No claims will be accepted for possible malfunctions of the computer system; therefore, applicants are invited to complete the application well in advance and in any case no later than the deadline. Any applications submitted in a manner different from the above will not be accepted.

The communication of the tests date contained in Annex A to this call has the value of notification to all effects. Any changes in the interview date will be notified to admitted applicants at least 10 days in advance by posting a notice on the University website on this same page.

There are two different types of selection. Please refer to the forms contained in Annex A to this call for all information about the selection method and tests schedule for the admission exam to each PhD course of the XXXVII Cycle.

Selection method A

The admission exam to the course consists in the following:

  • Assessment of academic qualifications and Curriculum Studiorum, if any;
  • Written test;
  • Possible interview.

The tests are aimed at ascertaining the preparation, skills and attitudes of the applicant to scientific research; the interview includes the assessment of the knowledge of at least one foreign language. The admission exam may also be taken in a foreign language, upon request of the applicant and prior approval of the Board of teachers.

The Commission awards to each applicant

  • up to 30 points for the assessment of the academic qualifications and of the Curriculum Studiorum, if any;
  • up to 30 points for each of the two tests according to the assessed abilities.

Applicants who have obtained a score of not less than 21/30 in the written test are admitted to the interview. The interview is considered successful if the applicant obtains a score of at least 21/30. The exams are held at the University of Bergamo. If not already specified in this call, the calendar of the written test, with the indication of the day, month and time when it will take place, will be communicated to the students at least 10 days before the date set for the test. The date of the interview, if not already provided for in this call, is communicated to those who have passed the written test with at least 10 days' notice or by means of communication by the Examination Committee at the competition.

Selection method B

The Examination Committee carries out the selection in two phases:

  • I phase: assessment of qualifications and documents provided with the awarding of a maximum of 60 points;
  • II phase: applicants who have obtained not less than 42/60 in the qualifications assessment in the first phase are admitted to the interview; the interview is considered successful if the applicant obtains a score of at least 21/30. The interview may be carried out, if possible and based on the Commission's decision, by videoconference and in a foreign language, upon prior request by the applicant and includes in any case the assessment of knowledge of at least one foreign language.

The invitation for the interview, if not already provided for in this call, must be made at least 10 days before the date set for the test.
