Procedures for entry and residency of visiting professors and researchers

Visiting professors from EU Countries

Visiting Professors with EU citizenship who are invited to the University of Bergamo in order to carry out teaching or research activities, can enter Italy with a valid identity document. Please note that this is valid also for citizens from Switzerland and Norway as they are treated as EU passport Holders.

Visiting Professors from the United Kingdom can enter Italy and work without Visa if they stay less then 90 days. On the contrary if their teaching or research period is longer than 90 days, they have to apply for a provisional self-employment Visa following the same procedure required for NON EU Citizens.

Visiting Professors and Researchers from NON EU Countries (short term – less than 90 days)

Visiting professors from NON EU Countries who stay less than 90 days must apply for an Entry Visa for self employment at the Italian Consulate of their home Country. Each Consulate has its own procedures and, in some cases, the Visa application process is handled by a third party organization: It is recommended to contact the Italian diplomatic authority in advance to understand the situation.
