Since 2009 the University of Bergamo has started a series of energy efficiency action plans through the installation and start-up of two photovoltaic systems at the Engineering and Economics-Law Campuses. Both allowed for a significant reduction of CO2 and growing savings in electricity consumption.

From the start-up of the systems the production of solar energy has been equal to the use of substantial amounts of gas, gas oil and carbon and has avoided the introduction of huge quantities of CO2 into the environment.
