Student-Led Courses
Student-led Interdisciplinary Courses are dynamic educational initiatives designed and implemented by students, with mentorship from academic staff. These courses are oriented around the goal of transforming university campuses into greener, more inclusive, and forward-looking environments – empowering students to act as drivers of change. By combining interdisciplinary collaboration with practical action, these courses give students the opportunity to translate the NEB Compass and the UN Sustainable Development Goals into tangible learning opportunities for their fellow students and, ultimately, transformation of their campuses.
These courses are local learning opportunities: they are exclusively open to students currently enrolled at the specific BAUHAUS4EU partner university hosting the course, including Erasmus exchange students present at that institution during the semester.

A BAUHAUS4EU Student-Led Course at the University of Bergamo
Join a course created by students for students and explore how tourism destinations can become more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. Bringing together different disciplinary perspectives and voices from academia and practice, the course combines interdisciplinary learning, international exchange, and collaborative problem-solving to rethink destination governance and imagine new approaches to the future of place management.
The Student-Led Courses is open to students enrolled at the University of Bergamo during the 2026/2027 academic year, including:
- PhD students;
- Master's students;
- Bachelor's students;
- Erasmus+ and exchange students studying at the University of Bergamo during the 2026/2027 academic year.
The course is delivered in English.
Registrations open on Monday, September 14, 2026 and close on Friday, October 9 at 12:00 noon, Central European Time.
Students must complete the application form via this Google Form link, including providing the student’s university email address and matriculation ID.
This Student-Led Course puts students at the centre of an interdisciplinary learning experience. Throughout the course, you will explore how Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) are evolving from traditional promotional bodies into strategic actors for more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient destination governance.
Through discussions with international scholars and practitioners, you will examine real challenges facing tourism destinations, including overtourism, environmental pressures, community tensions, stakeholder engagement, and the need to balance economic development with environmental and social priorities. By bringing together perspectives from tourism economics, urban geography, sociology, environmental studies, and territorial planning, the course gives you the opportunity to critically assess existing governance models, exchange ideas across disciplines, and collaboratively develop new scenarios for the future of destination and place management.
The Student-Led Course is eligible to be recognized for 3 ECTS. Students who successfully complete the course and meet the attendance and assessment requirements will receive a certificate of completion. These credits may be recognized by the student’s Degree Programme as free choice credits (“a scelta libera”) or additional credits (“sovrannumerari”). In the case of PhD students, if credits are not part of their PhD programme, an Open Badge recognizing their completion of the SLC will be issued instead.
- Is the course in English?
Yes. The course will be delivered in English. A working knowledge of English at B2 level, sufficient to follow lectures, participate in discussions, and contribute to group work, is required. As part of the application process, students must upload a self-declaration confirming their English proficiency.
- How much attendance is required?
Students are required to attend at least 75% of the teaching activities.
- Can Erasmus students participate?
Yes. Erasmus and exchange students enrolled at the University of Bergamo are welcome to apply for the semester(s) during which they are studying at the University of Bergamo.
- Do I need previous knowledge of tourism or destination management?
No. The course is designed as an interdisciplinary learning experience, and no specific prerequisites are required. Students from different academic backgrounds are encouraged to bring their own perspectives to the topics discussed.
