Regional Living Lab
Regional Living Labs are interdisciplinary, place-based learning ecosystems that connect universities with their local communities, public institutions and regional stakeholders. By addressing territorial challenges in close collaboration with the community, Regional Living Labs foster collaborative experimentation, co-creation, and applied research across disciplines. Implemented over two consecutive semesters, RLLs aim to engage students and professors in creating meaningful impact at the local level while advancing the sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetic vision of the New European Bauhaus.

A BAUHAUS4EU interdisciplinary course at the University of Bergamo
Work alongside students and academic staff from across the University of Bergamo on one of the city's most significant urban regeneration projects. Through interdisciplinary learning, collaboration with stakeholders, and challenge-based project work, the Regional Living Lab offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing transformation of the Montelungo-Colleoni complex.
The Regional Living Lab is open to students enrolled at the University of Bergamo during the 2026/2027 academic year, including:
- PhD students;
- Master's students;
- Bachelor's students who have completed at least 60 ECTS credits by October 2, 2026;
- Erasmus+ and exchange students studying at the University of Bergamo during the 2026/2027 academic year.
As the course is delivered primarily in English, applicants must demonstrate at least a B2 level of English proficiency in the application.
Applications for the first and second semesters open on Monday, September 14, 2026 and close on Friday, October 9 at 12:00 noon, Central European Time.
Students must complete the application form via this Google Form link, including providing the student’s university email address and matriculation ID.
The Regional Living Lab moves learning beyond the classroom. Throughout the course, you will collaborate with students from across the University of Bergamo to explore the ongoing regeneration of the Montelungo-Colleoni complex through interdisciplinary project work.
Working alongside academic staff, the Municipality of Bergamo, the Lombardy Region, the real estate asset manager Near sgr, and other stakeholders, you will investigate real challenges related to urban regeneration, sustainability, heritage, innovation, and community participation. By combining field-based learning, workshops, stakeholder dialogue, and collaborative design, the Regional Living Lab provides the opportunity to develop practical skills while contributing to a project that will become part of the University's future campus and the Bergamo community.
The Regional Living Lab brings together more than 20 academic staff from six departments of the University of Bergamo. Throughout each semester, students engage with all thematic areas through lectures, workshops, field activities, and collaborative project work.
By integrating the knowledge and perspectives gained across the course, interdisciplinary student teams develop a final project that is presented to academic staff, stakeholders, and community members as part of the final assessment.

- Can I apply for only one semester?
Yes. Students may apply for either one semester or both. Applicants who choose to participate in both semesters will receive additional points during the application ranking process.
- Is the course in English?
Yes. The course is delivered primarily in English. Some lectures, stakeholder meetings, and field activities may take place in Italian, depending on the speakers and participating organisations. Whenever possible, language support will be provided to facilitate the full participation of all students. Students must upload confirmation of their English proficiency as part of the application process.
- How much attendance is required?
Students are required to attend at least 75% of the teaching activities.
- Can Erasmus students apply?
Yes. Erasmus and exchange students enrolled at the University of Bergamo are welcome to apply for the semester(s) during which they are studying at the University of Bergamo.
