The conference will be an opportunity to look at the findings of research on discourse markers provided by theoretical and applied linguistics, and related disciplines, on the definition of discourse markers; their relation to other pragmatic categories; their use in different Romance languages; their lexicon; their polyfunctionality; their textual and/or pragmatic functions; their variation across registers, languages, and language varieties; their diachronic development; their acquisition.
