Psychological well-being

Psychological Counseling Service

The Psychological Counseling Service is available to all university students who, during their academic journey, experience personal or interpersonal difficulties.

The service offers individual sessions with a psychologist or psychotherapist, aimed at understanding the issue and identifying possible coping strategies.

For professional ethical reasons, students who are already engaged in a psychological treatment or therapy are not eligible to access this service.

Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis and, depending on the situation, may be taken in charge or referred to more appropriate services within the local area.

How it works

The service is completely free of charge and consists of a short-term individual counseling sessions, ranging from 1 to a maximum of 3 (not repeatable within the same academic year), based on the evaluation of the team of psychologists.

Sessions are generally held on a weekly basis.

According to the student’s preference, sessions can take place:

  • in person (at the university premises in Via Calvi 10, Bergamo)
  • or online (via Microsoft Teams or Google Meet)

Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.

PROBEN Groups for Anxiety, Stress, and Self-Esteem Management

In addition to individual counseling, students can also access an additional service: the PROBEN groups, which are also free of charge.

These are group sessions designed to provide tools and techniques to recognize anxiety and stress, understand their underlying mechanisms, and improve psychological well-being.

During the sessions, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • reflect on the signs of anxiety and learn to recognize them
  • practice anxiety management techniques
  • engage in body awareness and mindfulness exercises
  • share experiences with other students, reducing feelings of isolation

The groups consist of four sessions plus one follow-up meeting approximately one month later.

Each group includes a maximum of eight participants, takes place in the evening (from 8:00 PM onwards), lasts approximately two hours, and is conducted online via Microsoft Teams.

Access to the Service

To access the service, you are required to complete the dedicated form.

It is possible to submit a request:

  • for individual psychological counseling
  • for the PROBEN groups
  • or for both

The two services are not mutually exclusive and may be requested and attended concurrently.

Applicants will be contacted as soon as possible via their institutional email address: for the counseling service, depending on appointment availability; for the PROBEN groups, with placement in the first available group with available places.

Local Public Services

Please note that students from non-EU countries must have valid health insurance in order to access public healthcare services provided by the Italian National Health Service (“Servizio Sanitario Nazionale”). Students are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate coverage for the entire duration of their stay in Italy; otherwise, they may be required to pay for any healthcare services received.

University services, including Psychological Counseling and PROBEN groups, are free of charge for all students.

For situations of severe or urgent psychological distress, or for substance or behavioral addiction issues, the public services of the Bergamo Health Authority are available:
