Following the process of internalization, the University of Bergamo has increased the number of incoming professors and researchers from universities and non- universities abroad, to teach or conduct research in our Institution. The foreign professors and researchers will receive the status of Visiting Professor/Scholar/Fellow based on the following criteria:

  • Status of Visiting Professor: appointed to academics from a foreign university who hold the title of professor (Full Professor- in charge of a teaching course/fully employed) in their Home University. At the University of Bergamo they will teach or perform research. The status is also given to  academics/experts from a university/institution abroad  who will carry out teaching classes related to institutional courses and research doctorates, including courses at Master’s level taught in English, in the framework of the Internationalization project. Period of stay: Up to a maximum of 24 months with a minimum of 15 teaching hrs to be  carried out .
  • Status of Visiting Scholar: conferred to  a distinguished scholar from a foreign university/institution who does not hold a Chair (not a full professor) in their Home University but with more than three years of working experience in their field. At the University of Bergamo, they will conduct research. Period of stay: Up to a maximum of 24 months with a minimum of 15 days.
  • Status of Visiting Fellow: conferred to PhD students, PhD graduates and researchers from foreign universities/institutions with up to three years  of working experience in their field. At the University of Bergamo, they will conduct research. Period of stay: Up to a maximum of 24 months with a minimum of 15 days.

Professors and researchers at the University of Bergamo who would like to invite an academic/researcher from abroad as a Visiting Professor/Scholar/Fellow,  should  submit a formal request to their Department/Reseach Centre. The request form is available on My Portal and must be submitted together with the foreign academic’s/researcher’s resumé and personal statement.

Academics from abroad may be invited by academics/researchers  at  the University of Bergamo, on the basis of specific Calls in the framework of the project “Italy – Action 2 Grants for Visitng Professor and Scholar”.

Starting from academic year 2015-16 an exchange agreement which fosters mobility for academics and students has been established with Fairleigh Dickinson University (MADISON, NEW JERSEY, USA). At the University of Bergamo it will be coordinated by Prof. Flaminia Nicora.
